The inherent structure and emotional pull of music makes it an easy tool for teaching concepts, ideas, and information. CD Oakwood was lucky enough to have a special musical guest perform at our Holiday party! We shook bells to "Jingle bells". We clapped our hands to S-A-N-T-A (Bingo song), and we used our voice, sign language, and pictures to sing along to other fun tunes! ![]() December is all about holiday traditions. In Room 18, we have been talking about the holidays that take place in December. We are discussing the traditions people celebrate for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Our students even shared their families' traditions with the class.
We even mailed letters to Santa Claus. Students practiced their writing and choice-making skills. We discussed the different parts of a letter and envelope. Kerkstra's Room 18 enjoyed a field trip to Navy Pier's Winter Wonderland on 12/15/2015. Our students enjoyed the holiday sights and many sought thrills of going on rides! While practicing communication and safety skills in the community, our students had a blast at Winter Wonderland. Many students' favorite activity of the day was riding the train.
