Transitioning back into the school year is not always easy. Students and parents have different schedules in the summer that aren't always conducive when school is back in session. Using visual schedules or checklists can really support a more structured routine. Make schedules and checklists with your son/daughter's input. They could help design the format, come up with cool names for each step, and hang it up themselves. You may even request that they make a checklist for you to follow! Positive reinforcement and having some fun with this will help motivate your son/daughter to follow their checklist. Lastly, place the schedules/checklists in the locations that they will be used.

After School Checklist that includes a check box for the following: leisure/relaxation, dinner, homework, video game/TV time (recommended amount is 1 hour and not right before bed), shower, organize for school (put materials for the morning near the door, make sure homework is in folder and in school bag, etc.).
