Students have been learning about perimeter, area, and volume in Mrs. Nagy's math classes, which are now taught by her field-based student, Ms. Granata. They have been using cubes as manipulatives to demonstrate their knowledge of these concepts, rather than just show it on paper! Mrs. Nagy's field-based teacher, Ms. Granata, often has her math students stand up and stretch, as well as jog around the room to wake up when they are tired first thing in the morning! ![]() Dr. James Gay, Superintendent, announced via an email to staff that our very own Mr. Nolting has been named Illinois Principals Association High School Principal of the Year for the State of Illinois. Dr. Gay explained that the program recognizes high school principals who have demonstrated making a positive impact on education and advocacy for children, ensuring a positive school climate, taking risks to improve student learning, working collaboratively with teachers and staff, and involving the community in the school. Mr. Nolting has been a great supporter in the education of our students within the CD Program. He has always welcomed and encouraged our program to participate in all that Andrew High School has to offer. We could not be any prouder to be a part of the Andrew High School community on a day to day basis. Congratulations to Mr. Nolting! ![]() Parents & Students, We are on "count down" mode to the end our school year. Please, look out for confirmed dates & invitations for events that will take place this spring, including :
Additionally, teachers are hard at work planning the end of the year celebration Field Trip! The CD Program had a wonderful educational opportunity to visit the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago on February 22nd. Students saw all of the general exhibits, discussed, learned, and had fun. We are so fortunate to be able to take these academic excursions to link what we are learning in the classroom to the community. Students had the opportunity to dress up and put their dancing shoes on to participate in Andrew's February dance. They had a lot of fun and most of them never left the dance floor! Congratulations to Ms. Kern, who was married on January 30th, 2016! She can now be called, Mrs. Lavery! |
