Mrs. Lavery & Mrs. Granato-Wagner's English class, along with Ms. Reyes & Mrs. Horan (Para educators) have been reading the "I Survived The Great Chicago Fire, 1871" novel by Laruen Tarshis. It is a historical nonfiction story, which narrates through a story what it may have been like to be in Chicago during the blaze of flames. In our current chapter, a group of antagonistic characters used the fire as a reason to loot homes. The class learned in their pre-reading about the laws of theft. As a post-reading event, our Andrew High School Resource Officer, Officer London, came to speak to the class about his job, the law, and differentiating the types of theft. The students answered questions, asked questions, and provided insightful comments. It was a wonderful way that the novel's content connected to real world knowledge. Thank you Officer London for being a part of our Andrew High School & CD Family!Comments are closed.
