Mindfulness in schools has many proven benefits, which include: improved attention, emotional regulation, increased compassion, and reduced feelings of stress and improvement of anxiety and distress when placed in a stressful social situation.
The CD students and staff at Andrew High School had a day dedicated to Mindfulness. The students spent time together as a whole group on activities that focused on becoming more aware of one's self in the present moment, while acknowledging and accepting one's feelings and thoughts. These activities were facilitated by Mrs. Kellermann (the CD Andrew social worker) and were very therapeutic. It was a relaxing day to gather our thoughts and focus on ourselves as individuals.
