In C11, we celebrated two holidays related to the end of Autumn - Halloween (or Samhain as it was originally known) and Dia De Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead). We learned the histories of both holidays and compared and contrasted important facts about each. For example, we dress up in scary costumes for Halloween so we blend in with visiting spirits and they will leave us alone. However, for Dia De Los Muertos, we place candles, marigolds, and pictures out so the spirits of our ancestors will visit us. We love when our social studies lessons lead to parties/fiestas in C11!
