Fantastic February!

Canvas Art - The One and Only Ivan - ELA

In ELA, the CD Hille class is almost finished reading "The One and Only Ivan". The main character in the story, Ivan, loves to draw and paint. Students had an art day and created awesome canvases with their own creations using paint just like Ivan does in the book!

Social Language - Ice cubes
In social language, students are learning to 'keep trying' and 'never give up'. Remote students practiced bouncing a paper ball in the air for a minute and try their best to keep trying. In person students had to get a penny out of an ice cube. Although it was cold and took a while, they never gave up!

Black History Month - Journals
In social studies, students learned about many different important historical Black figures and current day role models all month long. Some included Rosa Parks, Michael Jordan, Jackie Robinson, Ruby Bridges, and Barack Obama. Students got to choose someone and write a letter to them with any questions they wanted to ask too. 

Science Experiments - Volcanoes and Earthquakes
In science, students are learning about different types of severe weather through readings, videos, and even experiments! Students created their own building structures made of marshmallows and toothpicks. Then, placed them on Jell-O and shook the tray to simulate an earthquake! They also put together a volcano with oozing red lava!
