C11 had a blast bowling with friends at the Orland Bowl field trip!
In Science this year Room A23 and A24 have been learning all about the Solar System! We took our learning to the amazing Adler Planetarium in downtown Chicago! Students had a blast exploring hands-on learning activities and learning about the newest space concepts and findings through a dome theater that sparked everyone's interest in the possibility of an official 9th planet! Wow !
Arbor A023 participated in a special project this month. We decided that if we made one person smile, we would make a difference in the world. The students made posters with their own positive message to share with the world and we brought it to the streets! We counted at least 30 honks and countless smiles as our neighbors in Oak Forest drove past our school. What an amazing feeling to know that we made someone's day better!
CD Arbor Park celebrated the Holiday season with a lesson on perspective taking, gift giving and receiving. The students participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange. Each student focused on thinking about their peers and choosing the perfect gift for them. We were so impressed with how well they have gotten to know each other this school year. They did an amazing job. Friendships were strengthened and the joy of giving was seen and felt around the room!
C12 celebrated its Authors and the unique stories our students have to share! During our First Author: Author's Chair Lesson, our students took turns showcasing their writing to classmates. Students were encouraged to make comments about each other's work! It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students' interests and ownership over their writing!
A23 and A24 joined forces and created candy grams for Arbor Park students! All grades enjoyed purchasing handmade candy gram treats made by CD Program students. Each student was able to interact with their general education peers by selling the candy grams and then delivering them Halloween day! The students raised these funds to support their upcoming community outings and extra incentives they enjoy. WOW!
On our last day before Fall Break, we enjoyed a Charlie Brown Feast (i.e. popcorn, jelly beans, pretzels, and toast/crackers) with our friends in C12 while we watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. We practiced using our manners (being respectful) and enjoyed helping Daniel celebrate his first Thanksgiving in America! We are thankful for all of our friends and family this season and all year long!
