C11 had a great time visiting Konow's Corn Maze with all our CD Program friends on Tuesday as part of our Fall Into PBIS kickoff! Our students practiced being safe, responsible, and respectful while feeding animals, playing on the big blow-up pillow, riding on the hay rack, and going through the corn maze.
The entire CD Program went on a community outing trip to Konows Corn Maze in Homer Glen! Students were able to interact with their fellow CD peers and enjoy a hay ride, meeting many types of farm animals, exploring a hay maze, jumping on giant trampolines, feeding goats and jumping in giant pools of corn! What an adventure!
The students in Ms.Regan and Ms.LaPrairie's middle school class have started off the year enjoying our new typing curriculum. This year students will be exposed to typing instruction through the Keyboarding Without Tears curriculum! This addition to our curriculum is teaching our students not only typing and computer skills, but responsibility. Students are responsible for maintaining their Chromebooks by logging in daily and making sure their Chromebook is plugged in and ready for the next day. Our students are doing a wonderful job being responsible and enjoying the use of technology in the classroom!
Students used their executive functioning and problem solving skills today to "escape" the classroom and save their paraprofessionals! They had a lot of fun searching the classroom and solving the puzzle.
Students in Ms.Regan and Ms.Bryar's middle school classroom went golfing at the Midwest Golf House with Freedom Golf at the beginning of May. The students were able to practice putting through various activities set up by the staff from Freedom Golf. After a long day at the course our class went to McDonald's where students practiced ordering and purchasing their meals independently while socializing with their peers!
A126 and A128 traveled downtown to take a boat tour of the Chicago River and onto Lake Michigan. We enjoyed hearing the history behind Chicago architecture and grabbed a bite from Connie's Pizza afterwards!
Did you know that J Crew has a program through which you can bring old denim to their stores and they will have it recycled in to insulation for homes? Learn more about this program here: http://bluejeansgogreen.org/recycle-denim/
The CMS Best Buddies got a chance to participate in this program by conducting a Denim Drive in January and turning-in our collected jeans the Friday before Earth Day. Once we got our jeans deposited, we went to Navy Pier for lunch! It was a great day in the city!
